WBC 2025 open ceremony
World BikeTrial Championship 2025 - Open Ceremony

On Saturday 16 and Sunday August 17 2025, Darfo Boario Terme, Italy, hosted the single-event World BikeTrial Championship 2025. However, preparations for the event began long before that. The main task was preparing the course. The woods on the Castellino hill had become very overgrown, and clearing them was a huge undertaking. It took several days of intense work before Roberto Beroggio arrived. His help was not only superb but also unexpected, and he really motivated us during the most challenging moments. We owe him a sincere and heartfelt thank you. After this experience, we started calling him Roberto the locomotive, and he truly deserves the nickname. Thank you Roberto!

We set up 12 zones: six for Group A and six for Groups B and H. All were natural, as they should be in a true BikeTrial race. Cement basins and logs on a flat surface aren't for us; BikeTrial must remain on natural terrain. We were able to make the most of the obstacles provided by the sloping rocks and elevation changes scattered across the hill. The course also included a one-kilometer transfer section to be repeated three times, for a total of 18 competition zones. It was a difficult and challenging course for all participants, fortunately under a sun that wasn't as powerful as it had been on the preceding days.

The City of Darfo Boario Terme and the Thermae & Ski Tourism Consortium granted us the use of the Congress Center and its surrounding areas, where we set up a free campsite for all participants. We also arranged for shower facilities at the Oratory of Boario Terme. The first guests started arriving on Wednesday afternoon, setting up in the large, equipped parking area.

By Friday, all 132 participants were present. After registration and technical control, we gathered in the Sala 500 for the opening ceremony. The event began with an intriguing introductory video, followed by an institutional greeting from the Mayor of Darfo Boario Terme, Dr. Dario Colossi, and a presentation of the 11 nations participating. A concert of popular music at the Boario Thermal Park rounded out the day at 9:00 p.m.

Wozniak Mikolaj 2025
Mikilaj Wozniak - Under 16 BikeTrial World Champion 2025

On Saturday at 8:30 a.m., the first rider from Group B set off from the Hotel Castellino, which hosted us wonderfully for the entire duration of the event. The starting order was in ascending age, from Under 10 to Under 16. The natural zones did their job well, though the green course, in particular, proved to be not very selective. The jury decided to divert the Under 14 riders to three blue zones during the third and final lap to increase the difficulty. Despite this, two participants finished with zero penalties! In this case, the rules were clear: the tiebreaker was the total race time. Only a three-minute difference gave the win to the Catalan rider Enric Llin Arzua over Jordi Sala Hernandez, who sportingly accepted second place. It’s hard to predict the level of these young champions, congratulations to both of you, you were fantastic. In the Under 10 category, another Catalan, Pau Roma Sala, came out on top. The Czech Zdenek Koubek won the Under 12, and the Pole Mikolaj Wozniak took the Under 16 title. All of them finished with very few penalties and some total zeros. Outstanding.

The afternoon was for the Class Female and Hobby categories. I think this was the first time an American winner, Robert Lawson, won the H3, comgratulations Robert. In the H2 category, the Spanish rider Raul Martinez Carrasco confirmed his talent, and the French rider Remy Morgan returned to victory in the H1 with a completely zero-penalty run on the blue zones—a, truly excellent result. The women's category also saw a top-level challenge, where the French rider Apolline Godon prevailed by a single penalty over the Czech Stepanka Mudrychova. Well done to the girls in the F category for this result; congratulations!

Louis Grillon WBC 2025
Louis Grillon World BikeTrial Champion 2025 Class 1

Sunday was the Group A competition, with the Class 3, Class 2, and Class 1 categories. The riders had 4 hours and 30 minutes, plus a 30-minute penalty period, to complete three laps of the six zones. It was a great show. In Class 1, a very determined Louis Grillon won, demonstrating a perfect, determined, and impeccable riding style that gave his opponents no chance. He finished with zero penalties and a large margin over his competitors. In Class 2, the ever-consistent Luca Tombini returned to victory after eight years, giving Italy its fifth world title in its history. In Class 3, the young Eddie Weightman left his opponents behind, bringing a new BikeTrial World Champion title to the United Kingdom, mirroring his brother Oliver's success in 2024.

The awards ceremony was held at 6:00 p.m. at the Boario Terme Congress Center. We first called the zone judges to the podium to thank them. We must remember that they volunteer their free time to allow us to hold our events. Their work is irreplaceable, very demanding, and difficult. Thanks again to all our Zone Judges!

In order, we awarded the winners of the various categories, starting with the youngest, and called all the participants to the podium for a final celebration that combined the spirit of competition with friendship. A handshake among all participants during the awards ceremony is a pleasant and established tradition in all BikeTrial races. The final category was for Nations, where Catalonia came out on top, followed by the Czech Republic and France. Thanks to all the delegates for their work in spreading BikeTrial around the world.
